# How to Watch an M3U Playlist on a Samsung or LG Smart TV

The options that work on Samsung (Tizen) and LG (webOS) TVs — native IPTV apps from the TV store, how MAC-activated apps work, uploading a playlist by URL, and when a streaming stick is the better choice.

## Why smart TVs are a special case

Samsung TVs run **Tizen** and LG TVs run **webOS**. Neither gives access to the Google Play Store, so the Android apps featured in most IPTV guides (TiviMate, for example) cannot be installed. You have two families of solutions:

1.  an **IPTV app from the TV's own store** (Samsung Apps / LG Content Store);
2. an **external device** plugged into an HDMI port — Android TV / Google TV stick, Fire TV, Apple TV — which gives you the full choice of players.

Neither TV brand provides channels for your playlist: in both cases, you bring your own playlist URL or Xtream Codes credentials.

## Option 1: an IPTV app from the TV store

Open the app store of your TV and search for "IPTV". The catalogue changes over time and by country, but apps generally fall into two types.

### Apps you configure directly on the TV

Some players let you type a playlist URL or Xtream Codes credentials directly on the TV. IPTV Smarters, for instance, has been published for some Samsung and LG models. Setup then works like on other devices: choose Xtream Codes login (server `https://m3utify.com`, username and password from your M3utify Xtream Panel) or enter an M3U URL. See our [IPTV Smarters guide](https://m3utify.com/en/blog/how-to-set-up-iptv-smarters).

### Apps activated by MAC address

Many TV apps (such as SS IPTV, Smart IPTV and several others) work differently:

1. Install the app; it shows the TV's **MAC address** or a device code on screen.
2. On a computer or phone, go to the app publisher's website, enter that MAC address and paste your **playlist URL** (some also accept an XMLTV guide URL).
3. Restart the app on the TV: it downloads the playlist linked to your device.

Points to know:

- Some of these apps charge a one-time **activation fee** per TV after a trial period. Pay only on the publisher's official website.
- Prefer **adding a URL** rather than uploading a file: when you update your playlist in M3utify, the TV gets the changes on its next reload.
- The app publisher's servers store your playlist URL. If it contains credentials, use credentials dedicated to this TV, which you can regenerate if needed.

## Option 2: a streaming stick (often the best experience)

For comfort and reliability, an HDMI stick or box is hard to beat:

- **Google TV / Android TV stick:** access to TiviMate, IPTV Smarters, Kodi, VLC and many others. See [IPTV on Android TV and Fire TV](https://m3utify.com/en/blog/iptv-on-android-tv-fire-tv).
- **Amazon Fire TV Stick:** inexpensive and widely available, with IPTV Smarters, VLC, Kodi.
- **Apple TV:** premium and smooth, with apps such as GSE Smart IPTV — see [IPTV on Apple TV](https://m3utify.com/en/blog/iptv-on-apple-tv).

Sticks also receive app updates more often than TV-store apps, and you keep them if you change TV.

## Prepare your playlist for a TV

TV apps are less powerful than computers. A few minutes of preparation in the [M3utify editor](https://m3utify.com/en/editor) make a big difference:

-   **keep only the groups you watch** — several thousand channels make most TV apps slow;
-   **use short, clear names** that fit on screen;
-   **check the logos** — broken logo URLs slow down the channel list;
-   **remove dead links** with the link checker;
- **declare the guide** in the playlist header (`x-tvg-url`) if the app cannot take an EPG URL separately.

## Using the TV's network settings well

- Connect the TV by **Ethernet** if possible; built-in Wi-Fi chips in TVs are often weaker than those of streaming sticks.
- Disable picture "enhancements" (motion smoothing, noise reduction) if they cause stutter on live channels.
- Keep the TV firmware up to date — app compatibility depends on it.

## Troubleshooting

### The app says "playlist not found" or shows no channels

Check that the MAC address entered on the website is exactly the one displayed on the TV, and that the playlist URL opens in a browser (it should start with `#EXTM3U`). Then restart the app completely.

### The guide does not show

Not every TV app supports XMLTV. If yours does, add the guide URL on the publisher's website or in the app settings. If channels show "no information", see our [EPG guide](https://m3utify.com/en/blog/epg-integration).

### Some channels play on the phone but not on the TV

TV apps support fewer formats. Try the other stream format offered by your source (for Xtream, `output=m3u8` instead of `ts`), or use a streaming stick.

## FAQ

### Can I install an APK on a Samsung or LG TV?

No. Tizen and webOS do not run Android apps. Use an app from the TV store or an Android-based stick.

### Is there a free option?

Some TV-store apps are free or have a free tier; others require activation after a trial. A streaming stick with a free player (VLC, Kodi) is a free alternative once you own the stick.

### Will my playlist work on several TVs?

Yes: add the same URL or credentials on each TV. MAC-activated apps need one activation per TV.
