How to Set Up GSE Smart IPTV on iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and Android

Add an M3U URL or an Xtream Codes account to GSE Smart IPTV, attach an XMLTV guide, and use its parental lock, favourites and casting — with fixes for the usual loading and EPG problems.

What GSE Smart IPTV is

GSE Smart IPTV is a long-standing IPTV player available on iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and Android. It is popular on Apple devices because it is one of the few players that accept both M3U playlists and Xtream Codes accounts, read XMLTV guides, and offer parental control and casting — all in one app. Like every player, it contains no channels; you add your own playlist.

The interface is less TV-oriented than TiviMate's, but it is very flexible and works well on a phone or tablet.

Before you start

Prepare one of these:

  • an M3U playlist URL — for example your M3utify playlist link;
  • Xtream Codes credentials — with M3utify, server https://m3utify.com plus the username and password from your Xtream Panel;
  • optionally an XMLTV guide URL for the EPG.

Install the app from the App Store or Google Play and check that the publisher is the official one.

Option A: Add an M3U playlist by URL

  1. Open the menu (≡) and choose Remote Playlists.
  2. Tap + and select Add M3U URL.
  3. Enter a playlist name and paste the URL.
  4. Tap Add, then tap the playlist to load it. Channels appear organised by group-title.

You can also import a file through Local Playlists, but a URL is better: the app reloads it and gets your changes automatically.

Option B: Add an Xtream Codes account

  1. Open the menu and choose Xtream Codes API.
  2. Tap + and fill in Name, Server URL (https://m3utify.com), Username and Password.
  3. Save and open the account. Live channels, films and series are listed in separate sections.

Xtream Codes is the most comfortable option in GSE: content is split by type and the guide is easier to set up. Our article M3U vs Xtream Codes compares the two.

Add the programme guide (EPG)

  1. Open the menu and choose EPG Sources (in some versions, under Settings).
  2. Tap +, give the source a name and paste the XMLTV URL (.xml or .xml.gz). With M3utify's Xtream access, the guide is at https://m3utify.com/xmltv.php?username=…&password=….
  3. Return to your playlist: programme information appears under each channel once the guide has loaded.

GSE matches guide and channels by tvg-id (and, failing that, by name). If a channel shows no programmes, see our EPG integration guide. If times are shifted, adjust the time offset in the EPG settings or read fix an EPG time offset.

Useful features

  • Favourites: tap the star next to a channel to add it to the favourites list.
  • Parental control: in Settings → Parental Control, set a password and lock groups. For a more robust setup, combine it with child profiles in your M3utify account (see parental controls for IPTV).
  • Casting: stream to a Chromecast or via AirPlay from the player controls.
  • Player choice: GSE offers several internal player engines; if a channel does not play, switching the engine in the player settings often fixes it.

On Apple TV

The Apple TV version supports the same sources. Typing URLs with the Siri Remote is tedious; use the iPhone keyboard prompt that appears when a text field is selected on tvOS, or add a short URL. For a full comparison of Apple TV apps, see IPTV on Apple TV.

Troubleshooting

"Unable to load playlist"

Open the URL in Safari or Chrome on the same device: you should see text starting with #EXTM3U. If you see an error page, the URL is wrong or expired. If you see the text but GSE still fails, the playlist may contain formatting errors — our guide M3U playlist not loading explains how to find them.

The playlist loads very slowly

Large playlists (tens of thousands of entries) are heavy for mobile devices. Keep only the groups you watch using the M3utify editor, then reload.

A channel plays without sound or with a black picture

Switch the player engine in the settings. Some streams use audio or video codecs that one engine handles better than another.

Streams freeze regularly

FAQ

Is GSE Smart IPTV free?

The app is free with ads on some platforms, with an in-app purchase to remove them. Prices and options vary by store.

Can I use several playlists?

Yes. Add as many remote playlists and Xtream accounts as you need and switch between them from the menu.

Does GSE sync playlists between my iPhone and Apple TV?

Each device keeps its own list of sources. Using the same URL or Xtream credentials on every device gives you the same channels everywhere, and changes made in M3utify reach all of them.
